At last! It's the summer of reading!

When I was growing up, summers were pretty simple: playing with the neighbor kids; vacation bible school; time at camp; family camping vacations and walks to the Bookmobile to check out piles of books! Pretty darn ideal all in all.

I miss parts of all of that. As I bought more books over the years than I could possibly read while working and pursuing happiness 🙂, I would promise myself that when my summers were open again, I would spend one just reading. Reading, reading, reading! I'd go through every book in my library (pictured here) and then pass them along.

I'm not even close yet, but I am making some progress. Still, I clearly have a book addiction because as fast as I read one - I seem to order three more. 😮

Growing up, I must have read every Grimm's fairy tale a dozen times. I also was mad about Nancy Drew mysteries. These days, I'm still crazy about fairy tales and fantasy but less so about most mysteries. I lean toward detective novels when I'm in the mood for a mystery. A good John Grisham book.

While I'm trying for variety, right now I'm on the Romantasy bandwagon and have been reading lots of fantasy series. But I just skipped over to read Blake Crouch's Recursion (he wrote Dark Matter and Wayward Pines.) The man likes to mess with your mind! If you're in the mood for books you can't put down, that bend your brain around, check out his many books.

I do love a good dystopian book, especially if it doesn't include zombies (too overdone for me) but for the most part, fantasy series are still my favorites. I just finished this Dominion book, which I picked up partly from someone raving on it (romantasy lovers, I love following That Girl Reads. She does entertaining and valuable reviews and has the best wild hair) and partly because it is flat out gorgeous! Holy book reviews! Have you been to a bookstore lately? The trend in hardcover books is toward these beautiful covers with the pages flaunting pretty art too.

And the other books I love to read are the ones my friends write. Like this one! LB Joyce is a friend I made when I was in the Pilllsbury Bake Off. She is muti-talented - bakes, paints, creates - and writes fun books featuring sports and baking. This one is her December book which seemed perfect to feature since it is Christmas in July time! Grab yourself a quiet spot and spoil yourself with a really good book. There are sooooo many!
